Elvis Presley’s fiancee Ginger Alden, who has never spoken before about the King Of Rock and Roll, has revealed how the legendary singer had promised her the wedding of the century months before he died in a new book Elvis & Ginger, which charts her relationship with Elvis Presley in his final year of life
Elvis & Ginger, written by Ginger Alden, talks about the singer’s darker side, with him often displaying violent mood swings.
“I know this sounds funny but when Elvis entered the room, I thought trumpets would sound. He looked so handsome,” she wrote.
The couple first met at a fairground when Alden was still a child. But in 1976, she accompanied her sister, Terry, the reigning Miss Tennessee, to his home and it was here that the romance with Alden quickly blossomed.
Ginger Alden first joined Elvis Presley on tour in Las Vegas, where he sent her to luxury stores in the hotel lobby to buy expensive gowns to wear to his shows. Then came the ornamants. Just before the show one night, he asked her to close her eyes. When she opened them, there was a gold diamond cluster ring on her finger.
Elvis Presley and guns were a dangerous combination. One night, when the toilet started to gurgle, he blasted it with a machine gun. More frightening was the day he raced into the yard with the machine gun after spotting his daughter, Lisa, being pursued by someone with a gun. Ginger Alden made him see that Lisa was being chased by a child with a toy pistol.
Elvis Presley once shot the television when he didn’t like the program. Another time he fired at the phone when it disturbed him. Ginger Alden blamed such erratic moments on his mood swings.
On August 16, 1977 she found him dead. Elvis Presley was forty two.
Elvis & Ginger shall be up for sale from September 02, 2014.
