Box Office: Shamitabh – Fails To Impress

shamitabh-08 There was a lot of hype around R. Balaki’s Shamitabh and one expected the film to do well at the Box Office, but unfortunately the film failed to impress both the critics swell as the moviegoers.

Shamitabh was released in about one thousand one hundred screens pan India and the film look a very slow start. The film had a niche market and did not appeal to the masses at all.

Shamitabh collected Rs 03.50 crore nett on Friday (February 06, 2015), on Saturday (February 07, 2015) it shows some marginal improvement and collected Rs 04.75 crore nett, on Sunday (February 08, 2015) the film collected about Rs 05.80 core nett, Monday (February 09, 2015) the film collected about Rs 01.45 crore nett, on Tuesday (February 10, 2015) the collections fell further to Rs 01.00 crore nett, Wednesday (February 11, 2015) the film collected only Rs. 85 lacs nett and on Thursday (February 12, 2015) the film managed Rs 75 lacs nett; thus making it a total of Rs 18.10 crore nett at the Domestic Box Office at the end of week one.

Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush were the life and soul of the film as friends who turned adversaries. They play opposites in many ways.

In the film, Mr. Bachchan plays an angry, old, alcoholic and frustrated voice artist, who gives his voice to a mute actor Dhanush. He is scintillating as the mute actor, who comes to the big city with dreams in his eyes. When the two meet, begins the story of Shamitabh and their hidden rivalry.

Shamitabh happened to be Dhanush’s second film in Bollywood. According to Dhanush, prior to Shamitabh he had received almost thirty three scripts which he rejected as he didn’t find it all interesting till Shamitabh came his way.

Since Roy is the newest release of the week (February 13, 2015) and has gained a good number of shows, while Messenger Of God too has managed to find decent screen space for itself, the shows of Shamitabh have reduced as well. Due to this, the film won’t be able to traverse much of a distance from this point on.
