There was a lot of positive buzz around the film; firstly because of Ranbir Kapoor and secondly because of the music of the film. Now this was the main reason the film opened well.
Infact Roy had the best opening of the year, especially in metros but as the day went by the film starting dipping and the entire credit of this should go to it’s mediocre content.
What’s shocking is the fact that Roy was promoted well and also managed to get about two thousand five hundred screens. The film had everything, except a script. Has there been content in the film, it had all the potential of being a blockbuster.
Roy, which also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal, seems to have benefitted from the Valentine’s Day weekend but then the India v/s Pakistan match on Sunday messed it up for this one.
Arjun Rampal took on to Twitter and wrote, “Happy Valentine’s Day to all. Love you all and spread love. Thank you Roy is the biggest opener of 2015. Super happy.”
The film managed to collect Rs 10.40 crore nett on Friday (February 13, 2015), on Saturday (February 14, 2015) the film showed a marginal rise and collected about Rs 11.16 crore nett and on Sunday (February 15, 2014) the film had a steep drop and collected about Rs 07.12 crore nett; thus making it a total of about Rs 28.86 crore nett at the end of its first weekend.
The film is a love triangle revolving around the lives of a filmmaker, a thief and their mutual love interest.
Next week, Friday 20, 2015 will see the release of Varun Dhawan starrer Badlapur, which seems to be on a shaky ground.
Lets hope for the best and see what would be the finally tally for Roy at the end of it’s first week.
