However, at the end of the first week, the fate of both the films is almost clear. While Piku has proved to be the flavour of the week and has appealed to both the masses as well as the classes, Kuch Kuch Locha Hai has proved to be a disaster.
Piku has been produced by Sony Multi Screen Media and has been distributed by Yash Raj Films. The film was released in around one thousand eight hundred screens.
Piku has a phenomenal word of mouth, thanks to it’s brilliant writing and thus the collected kept of grown over the days.
Initially, the film had a great start in metros, especially in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, but post Friday (May 09, 2105) the film started doing well all across.
Piku managed to collect Rs 05.32 crore nett on Friday (May 08, 2105), it jumped to Rs 08.70 crore nett on Saturday (May 09, 2015) and on Sunday (May 10, 2015) the film further jumped to Rs 11.20 crore nett; thus making it a total of Rs 25.22 crore nett at the end of it’s first weekend.
The film has had an unprecedented overseas opening as well.
Piku has been made on a budget of about Rs 50 crore and will have to go some great business at the Box Office to recover it’s costs and hopefully have an overflow. Now going by what we see, is should not a tall order for this one.
Now coming to the second release of the week, Kuch Kuch Locha Hai. The film posed to both pathetic reviews as well as poor word of mouth.
The film that stars Sunny Leone and Ram Kapoor has proved to be a huge disaster at the ticket window.
Kuch Kuch Locha Hai managed to collect Rs 75 lacs nett on Friday (May 08, 2105), it collected Rs 75 lacs nett on Saturday (May 09, 2015) and on Sunday (May 10, 2015) too the collects were pathetic as the film collected Rs 75 lacs nett; thus making it a total of Rs 02.25 crore nett at the end of it’s first weekend.
The film has been made at a cost of Rs 15 crores and with the way things are, it will not be able to even recover it’s print and publicity cost.
