Mary Kom has managed to collect about Rs 08.20 crore nett on Friday (September 05, 2014), Rs 09.20 crore nett on Saturday (September 06, 2014) and Rs 11.60 crore nett on Sunday (September 07, 2014), thus collecting about Rs 29.00 crore nett in its opening weekend at the Indian Box Office.
Mary Kom had a huge release as it was screened in about two thousand nine hundred to three thousand screens. Adding to this, the film has a great pre-release buzz and last but not the least Mary Kom has been made tax free in states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Assam.
However, in Mumbai theatres, while some places have reduced their prices to as low as Rs 80 or Rs 90, the rates at several multiplexes continue to be high and are in the range of Rs 280 to Rs 300 on weekdays and about Rs 350 to Rs 480 on weekends.
Mary Kom opened to a mix response by both the critics as well as the audiences but as the days went by it saw a steady growth in its collections. However the film has done better collections in multiplexes as compared to singe screens.
With minimal competition from any other films over the weekend one can expect Mary Kom to have a great run. A sports biopic isn’t usually a crowd puller and the slow start Mary Kom at the Box Office can be because of this.
Coming up next week, September 12, 2014, one will see Creature 3D and Finding Fanny hit the silver screen and both theses film would eat into Mary Kom but till then one is expecting Mary Kom to have a fantastic week one.
