The Box Office collections for Badlapur have been pegged at Rs 07 crore nett on Friday (February 20, 2015), Rs 08.50 crore nett on Saturday (February 21, 2105) and Rs 08.00 crore nett on Sunday (February 22, 2105); thus totalling up to Rs 23.50 crore nett at the end of it’s first weekend.
The film could have done better as it had no competition, but it’s Box Office tally was hit due to the India-South Africa World Cup match as well as the adult certificate that the film was given.
The movie was released in just one thousand and seven hundred screens in India, which is low compared to movies of others that have recently hit the silver screen.
Badlapur features Varun Dhawan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Divya Dutta, Huma Qureshi, Yami Gautam, Vinay Pathak and Radhika Apte in pivotal roles.
Though Badlapur is behind in the numbers game, Nawazuddin Siddiqui surely has proved his mettle as an actor with this one and that’s what is more important.
The issue with the film is that it does not have a repeat value. It’s mindless most of the time and has some parts that a brilliant. Also the lack of songs could pose a huge hindrance to the film.
Monday, February 23, 2015 will hold the key to the film’s success. If the film still manages good numbers then there is hope, but if it drastically falls, which I feel it will, then this one could be in trouble.
All said and done, this year’s biggest opener so far has been Roy, followed by Baby.
Coming up next week, February 27, 2015, will see a release of Ab Tak Chhappan 2, Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Luckhnowi Ishq, none of which according to me holds promise.
