Television Review: Thapki Pyaar Ki – Mockery Of An Underdog

colors tv-02Thapki Pyaar Ki is all about a girl, Vaani Chaturvedi (Jigyasa Singh), who stammers constantly while conversing with other people.

She consequently stammers and her her parents constantly worry about her marital prospects. Wow!! Which world are we living in.

Vaani has been rechristened as Thapki by the society due to her stammer, which can be broken by a pat on her back. Even with her flaw, she aspires to make a mark for herself.

As customary, the show began with her parents desperate to get their daughter married. Very predictably, the boy leaves Thapki at the alter and the marriage is called off. Post that Thapki decides to pursue a career and moves to Delhi.

I am wondering what happened to Thapki’s parents who were so desperate to get their daughter married, or were they waiting for this public insult. How insipid and juvenile is this one.

Moving on, Vaani Madam comes to Delhi and pat gets a job in a news channel. Suddenly, from being this sweet and innocent girl from Agra, she transforms herself into a hotshot television journalist. Wow!! This so magical and cute.

If all this was not enough, the makers created history by actually filming a sequence wherein a computer chip that accidentally gets deep fried in oil, still has a very important interview saved on it, which eventually gets used. Wow!! What a technical miracle.

Dhruv (Ankit Bhatla) who is supposed to be the head honcho of this news channel has been made to look like any other side kick. His family, that’s full of morons look artificial and too over the top.

Which mother-in-law in this world would ask her daughter-in-law’s to dance, sing and do all sorts of stupid things and record it on her cell. Gosh!! This one is just beyond me.

With no detailing on characters and a juvenile style of writing, Thapki Pyaar Ki is a mockery. We all have flaws, we all are imperfect, but that does not mean that people around us constantly ridicule us or demean us.

Thapki Pyaar Ki is one such show where in the main protagonist stammers, point taken. But then why is it that most of the people around her are either insecure about her or have no other work but to mock at her. How insensitive and juvenile is this.

Thapki Pyaar Ki, is a joint venture by SOL and Shoonya Square Production. Had the makers given a serious thought to the basic concept of the show, Thapki Pyaar Ki could have been a benchmark.

Currently it’s a sham!!
