Reporters as we all know by now, is about Kabir Sharma (Rajeev Khandelwal) and Ananya Kashyap (Kritika Kamra) and their journey as journalists.
Apparently Ananya, a strong willed girl who is driven by her passion to be an investigative journalist. She is intelligent, ambitious and idolises Kabir Sharma.
On the other hand, Kabir Sharma is a legend and an inspiration for all aspiring young journalists like Ananya. He is smart as he is irreverent and has his unique way of reporting news.
Well, this is what the makers have to say about the show, but what one actually sees is no where close to this.
It is hilarious to see Ananya climb on top of a desk to make a point. It seems very juvenile and over the top. Do not know which reporter behaves in such a manner. Also the fact that she is trying to play this cut, bubbly and young journalist.
For starers, Kritika hardly looks young, to make matters worse, she has put on loads of weight and last but not the least we would not like to talk about the hideous glares that she wears.
She is a reporter or is she a someone trying to make a fashion statement.
Rajeev should have done his homework before he took on Reporters, as he is just sleep walking his role, a role that commands a lot of authority, power and respect.
All we get to see is a very stylish looking Rajeev, trying to look suave in situations that need him to roll up his sleeves and get to work.
Coming to the makers, well one should give a lot of credit to both the director and the producer of the show for doing full justice to this one. From production values to background score, detailing of the newsroom to the look of the show; everything seems to be in place.
However, the writing team needs to realise that they are not writing a melodramatic soap. This one needs special attention and a lot of mature writing, something that just does not exist.
One needs to realise that the basic DNA of the show is not dramatic, but reality and that’s the reason why the actors need to be heroic in their deeds and not just be bothered about their looks.
All in all, the biggest mistake was to cast Rajeev Khandelwal as Kabir Sharam, who is desperately trying to act intelligent, benevolent and someone you could look up to. Sadly, he falls flat.
Had the makes cast someone else, Reporters could very well have been India’s answer to The Newsroom.
A perfectly directed show, a perfectly produced show, but then what sticks out like a sore thumb is Rajeev Khandelwal; well, we are talking about Repo...1.5
