The funeral will take place in Oshiwara Crematorium at 02:30 pm today.
She was keeping unwell since 2013 and had suffered a stroke on December 02, 2013, which affected her basic motor skills. She stayed at the hospital for almost six months after the stroke.
Sudha Shivpuri started her career early, when she was in the eighth standard in school. Her father had died, and her mother had fallen ill, thus the onus of earning a living for the family came on to her.
Sudha Shivpuri married popular actor Om Shivpuri in 1968 and together they started a theatre company, Dishantar, in Delhi.
In 1974, they shifted to Mumbai, as her husband had started getting many offers for Hindi films.
In the year 1977, she too made her Bollywood debut with Basu Chatterjee’s Swami. She went on to be part of projects like Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Hamari Bahu Alka, Sawan Ko Aane Do, Sun Meri Laila, Burning Train, Vidhaata, Maya Memsaab and Pinjar.
After her husband passed away in 1990 due to a tumour in the spine, she went back to acting in daily soaps. Some of the shows she did included Missing, Rishtey, Sarhadeinand Bandhan, but her real big break came in 2000, when he was offered to essay the role of Baa in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Thi and as they say the rest was history.
Post Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Thi, she went on to be part of television shows like Sheeshe Ka Ghar, Waqt Ka Dariya, Daman, Santoshi Ma, Yeh Ghar, Kasamh Se, and Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil.
She is survived by a son and daughter, Ritu Shivpuri.
