Shastri Sisters were in Delhi to celebrate Rakshabandhan and the did that by tying rakhi’s to the Delhi cops. all the four girls have a deep connect with Delhi via their show and Shastri Sisters explores the journey of four sisters from Kanpur to Delhi.
Neha Pednekar expressed her excitement on being in the city again and stated, “We were shooting in the heat last time. There was a lot of running involved, so we were really tired. This time, the weather is better and it is bliss. I have a younger brother who is like a friend, a mother, a brother and a sister to me. When I return home after shooting and feel tired, he is the one who warms the food for me. My schedule has been so hectic ever since I signed this show that I haven’t met my brother in the last two months. I have asked him to come over to the sets on Rakhi. In real life, I have never tied a rakhi on a policeman’s wrist but they deserve this sort of gesture.”
The girls were supposed to tie a rakhi to B.S Jaiswal, Deputy Commissioner Of Police (South District), but he was busy owing to The Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. So, the girls headed to the stadium to meet him, but instead, they met P.S. Kushwaha, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Of Police (South District), as B.S Jaiswal was in a meeting.
P.S. Kushwaha told the girls that that he does not watch television and is unaware of any television actors but he was touched by the gesture and even asked the girls for their phone numbers.
“Never has it happened that girls have tied a rakhi on my wrist while I am on duty. This is the first time something like this is happening. That is why I took their phone numbers so that I can call them every year and wish them a Happy Rakhi. I have a younger sister who sends me a rakhi by post,” stated P.S. Kushwaha.
Sonal Vengurlekar was very happy meeting the cops and stated, “These people are the real heroes who protect us. They have hectic work schedules. I am very lucky that I got to experience this. I have never been afraid of approaching the police. It’s difficult to get an auto in Mumbai, but whenever the autowallahs don’t agree to go to a destination, I approach the cops who scold them and ask them to ply according to the rules.”
Pragati Chaurasiya, who plays the youngest sister on the show stated, “The cops are always there for us, day and night. There are untoward incidents happening in the capital but still, they try to ensure that people stay safe.”
Ishita Ganguly too shared similar sentiments and said, “The mentality of the people is responsible for the crimes happening in the society. You cannot erase crime or corruption from the society. The cops try their best to curb crimes. Even in the show, there is a sequence where my character ties a rakhi to a cop.”
Constable Paramvir Nimbhal stated, “We never get offs on festivals. In fact, it is the most hectic time for us. We usually celebrate festivals a day after they have happened.”
Another constable, Rakesh Kumar, said, “People get scared of our uniform. We try and tell hem that we are for them, we are there to protect them but everyone tries to maintain a distance from us. Maybe, through such things, people will change their perception about us.”
We do hope that all this will help change the perception of people about the police.
