The latest Balaji show Kuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan launched on Star Plus on 28th September, 2015. The promos made it clear that it is a love triangle between three friends. However, the audience expected it to be something different, for a change. Unfortunately, the show looks like a stereotypical love triangle between Koyal (Shritama Mukherjee), Madhavan (Gautam Gupta) and Raj (Vibhav Roy).
The story features three families from three different cultures – Bengali, South Indian and Punjabi respectively. The story takes off with the tried and tested formula of introducing each character to establish them in the viewers’ minds. Koyal is bubbly, chirpy and a deep believer of love, Madhavan has feelings for Koyal and can do anything for her happiness and Raj is a happy-go-lucky, over-enthusiastic boy who does not particularly believe in love, but is a good friend.
The central character Koyal seems ridiculously dreamy and her dialogues are from some 90’s romantic movie, where love is about finding the one in a million and how love has no boundaries. Raj is an aspiring actor, who wants to make it big in Bollywood; he does not believe in love, but is up for flings. His over-exuberant and flamboyant Punjabi nature makes him quite annoying. However, Madhavan is the shy, silent and geeky guy with an adorable quality of caring for others, especially for Koyal.
Overall, the tone of the plot seems too preachy and the characters are yet to show some depth. As of now the show portrays the same old love triangle. Since it is an Ekta Kapoor show, we hope for some interesting twists and turns in the near future.
