“Why doesn’t a loser like him have the fear of the law before he decides to attack a girl who is unarmed and unprepared and someone who is in a state to try and do her work to the best of her ability. I assure you all that I am hurt but not out. I am shocked, but more determined. I felt injured, but stronger than ever.” stated Gauahar Khan.
The assault on Gauahar Khan happened on Sunday (November 30, 2014) while Gauahar was hosting the finale of India’s Raw Star at Film City in Mumbai.
Twenty four year old Mohammad Akil Malik, an audience member, slapped her during the break of the show. He said that being a Muslim woman, the actress should not have worn a short dress.
“I assure you all that I am hurt but not out. I am shocked but more determined. I felt injured but stronger than ever,” Gauahar said as she thanked her family and friends for supporting her.
Mohammad Akil Malik, who had been coming over to the shooting set of the show as a member of the audience for the past three days, had managed to get on to the stage despite a strong presence of over two hundred and fifty bouncers and about three thousand people.
Later, Mohammad Akil Malik tried to touch Gauahar Khan and criticised her for wearing skimpy clothes and dancing to item songs despite being a Muslim. Before a stunned Gauahar could realise what was happening, Mohammad Akil Malik slapped her, leaving her in tears.
“This loser doesn’t represent my beautiful faith which in itself means peace and submission. He apparently attacked me because I am an actress. He wanted to send out his warped message. I am using the same status to appeal all women to stand against such acts. Also, despite the shock, I didn’t let the incident spoil the finale of the show and completed my shoot,” added Gauahar Khan.
“I feel the pain of all women who go through such kind of attacks in the name of moral policing. I know this man does not represent the youth of India because the young boys who were outraged by his cowardly attack on me outnumbered him. I am not here to promote any kind of dress code, or state that one must or must not wear certain clothes. I am only here to state that no one has the right to attack or hurt anybody for excising one’s personal thoughts or beliefs,” said a visibly shocked Gauhar Khan.
Gauahar wonders that if actresses are been subject to such harmful mindsets, then how safe a common girl or a woman would be and feels that one can oppose any ideology in a peaceful manner.
“It angers me to realize that a man thought it’s okay to raise his hand and be violent to a woman at his will. This is also a terror and it has nothing to do with any belief. No religion or culture gives you the permission of being violent.” said Gauhar Kahn during her media interaction.
We just hope that such incidences do not happen again.
Gauahar Khan finally addressed the media regarding the unfortunate attack on her from an audience member on the grand finale of India's Raw Star. “...2.0
