After almost a two decade, Usher sits at the peak of the music industry, but he’s not resting on his laurels. Instead, he’s helping to revitalize the genre that catapulted him to fame twenty years ago by putting on exciting young artists that he believes bridge the gap between pop cultural and urban subculture.
That includes August Alsina, who is opening for him on the upcoming The UR Experience tour to promote Usher’s eighth studio album, UR , which will reportedly feature Nicki Minaj, Pharrell Williams, Diplo, Ed Sheeran, Drake, DJ Cassidy and many more.
While Usher originally planned to release the album UR in 2014, he has made it very clear to the music company that the album will not be out as he is taking his time with the forthcoming project.
According to sources close to the people organising the The UR Experience tour, most venues on the twenty seven city tour have been selling only a fraction of the available seats. They estimate sales are so soft that promoter Live Nation is expected to lose $5 million on the project.
“Usher’s sales will be fine in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Toronto, but he’s selling so badly in other markets that the good ones can’t offset the bad ones,” said one source.
One reason for this could be the lack of a strong opening act. August Alsina was to open, but recently collapsed during a performance and was hospitalized for a week.
The UR Experience kicks off in Quebec on November 01, 2014 and ends in Tampa, Florida on December 14, 2014.
Apart from all this, Usher is also busy judging The Voice and is also giving advice to his friend and protege Justin Bieber and helping him in every possible way he can.
