Fantastic Four hasn’t overtaken the likes of Avengers: Age Of Ultron or Jurassic Park in terms of anticipation, but the new trailer does mark it out as one of the summer’s big hitters.
The trailer features a monologue delivered by Doctor Franklin Storm (played by Reg E. Cathey), who waxes on humankind’s insatiable need to discover, invent and build.
As he speaks, we get our first look at the superheroes to be; Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm and Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm. These four are set to launch into space.
The Fantastic Four trailer, does not let out a lot about the Marvel Comics superheroes but one can see that they are in full special effects and heavy action mode. It’s clear that director Josh Trank has empowered his super team of actors to deviate from the original comic book source material.
Judging by what one say in the trailer, the new-look reboot is mercifully being taken more seriously than the first two Fantastic Four movies.
There is a little hint about the film’s story in the trailer, though it’s narrator speaks briefly about mankind’s need to build and invent, responsibility and sacrifice.
Though the film itself is a mainstream superhero flick, Josh Trank credits the films of venerable horror originator David Cronenberg as a big influence on the movie. The director has singled out Scanners and The Fly as films that had impacts on the way this film will look.
All in all, this 20th Century Fox’s new take on the foursome, last seen in 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer, looks quite different from what we’re used to.
Fantastic Four opens in theaters on August 07, 2015.
