Creed is all about Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan), who never knew his famous father, boxing champion Apollo Creed, as he died before Adonis was born.
However, boxing was in his blood and now he seeks out to Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) and asks the retired champ to be his trainer.
Rocky sees much of Apollo in Adonis, and agrees to mentor him, even as he battles an opponent deadlier than any in the ring. With Rocky’s help, Adonis soon gets a title shot, but whether he has the true heart of a fighter remains to be seen.
Fantastic Four star Michael B. Jordan essays the role of the son of Balboa’s arch nemesis turned friend Apollo Creed, who was played by Carl Weathers in the first four Rocky films.
Adonis Creed reveals he never met his father, who died in Rocky IV, but he does don patriotic trunks in the ring, just like Carl Weathers’ character did.
The trailer gives us a glimpses of two women in Adonis’s life: his mother, played by Phylicia Rashad and a singer he gets romantically involved with (Tessa Thompson).
Last but not the last, Sylvester Stallone too appears in the trailer as the iconic athlete, becoming a mentor for Jordan’s character, Adonis, much like Burgess Meredith’s Mickey served as a mentor to Balboa.
Even as the trailer comes to an end, the lines: “a great fighter once said, it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward”, stay with you.
Creed is set to box it’s way into the theaters on November 25, 2015.
Get ready for a knock out!!
