From its story to screenplay to action to comedy, almost everything about Thor: Ragnarok is underwhelming.
Hela (Cate Blanchett), the goddess of death, is shown to this unstoppable force, who wants to rule Asgard. She even breaks Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) hammer. To make matters worse, Thor is also imprisoned in this weird place and is made to fight his teammate, Hulk. Revealing anything beyond this would mean giving out spoilers.
Though it isn’t completely unwatchable, Thor: Rangarok fails to make an impact. Hela’s character is shown to be this fierce woman in the beginning but it eventually fizzles out. There’s a lot of witty banter and funny scenes but only a few are hilarious. Even the emotional scenes fail to move you. The camaraderie between Thor & Bruse Banner/Hulk is quite entertaining.
Chris Hemsworth acts wonderfully and looks fresh in his new look. Tom Hiddleston is good. Cate Blanchett delivers a good performance but her character deserved more. Idris Elba is fine. Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster is pretty okay. Tessa Thompson plays her part well. Mark Ruffalo is decent.
Thor: Rangarok is a mediocre film at best. We give it 2.5 stars with a kink.
