Skyscraper

Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Neve Campbell, Chin Han, Roland Moller Noah Taylor, Byron Mann and Pablo Schreiber

Director: Rawson Marshall Thurber

Skyscraper is so much like a masala Bollywood film. That’s because the protagonist, Will Sawyer (Dwayne Johnson) does all the seemingly impossible & dangerous things.

Will is a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran. He had to lose a leg in 10-year-old freak incident. He now assesses security for skyscrapers. His current job is to examine the security of a 3,500 feet (1,100 m) and 225 stories tall Hong Kong skyscraper called ‘The Pearl’. What seems like an innocuous job, lands him in a big situation.

One of the main drawbacks of the film is that it’s very flimsy. Most of the action scenes are highly improbable. Some even make you laugh. But what keeps you interested are the various twists. And you really are interested to know what happens to him next. So, despite its flaws, it’s not completely unwatchable. The starting few minutes are particularly good.

Dwayne Johnson is fabulous. He is one of the main reasons that keep you interested in the film. Neve Campbell as Will’s wife Sarah Sawyer is pretty decent. Roland Møller as Kores Botha plays the bad guy perfectly. All the other actors do a fine job.

Skyscraper doesn’t really deliver but is not boring as well. We give it 2.5 stars with a small kink.
