Searching is a damn neat drama mystery. At its core, it’s mainly a father-daughter relationship.
Through many photos & videos stored on a computer & messages we are acquainted with the David Kim (John Cho), his ailing wife Pamela Nam Kim (Sara Sohn) and his daughter Margot (Michelle La). Pamela succumbs to her ailment and the relationship between David and Margot is somewhat affected but we don’t really know if it’s because of Pamela’s death. Margot goes missing one day and that’s when David realises that he doesn’t even know who her friends are. Detective Vick (Debra Messing) is the investigating officer who’s handling the case. Many shocking things ensue.
Director Aneesh Chaganty manages to hold your attention throughout the film. You keep guessing what might have happened to Margot and are constantly involved. The many twists in the narrative are well done. There are some things which look like flaws but are later cleared as the climax unfolds.
John Cho is excellent as he plays the troubled father who’s in search of her daughter. Debra Messing is great. Michelle La is fine.
Searching is a damn neat film which will keep you on the edge of your seat. We give the film 3.5 stars with a kink.
