Post his arrest, Sam Shepard, seventy one, told a police officer that he had two tequila shots and was planning to drive home.
Apparently, the police officers could smell alcohol on his breath, and he had bloodshot, watery eyes and was arrested outside La Choza Restaurant in the downtown area of the state capital.
Sam Shepard tried in vain to drive away, thwarted by an emergency brake he failed to release. That was enough evidence for the cops to pull him over.
He declined to take a breath test, but did perform a field sobriety test, which he failed. He has not been released from custody as of Tuesday (May 26, 2015) afternoon.
He pleaded guilty and was fined $600 and court costs and was placed on twenty four months supervision. He also had to finish an alcohol treatment program and perform hundred hours of community service.
