This year too everyone was looking forward to Neil Patrick Harris who made his Oscar debut on the Dolby Theater stage and he did a little bit of everything.
Neil Patrick Harris opened the Oscars 2015 with a spectacle packed number from Back To The Future and followed it up with his parody of a scene from Birdman, in which Michael Keaton runs through Times Square in his underpants.
Now Neil Patrick Harris ran through backstage corridors and onto the stage in white briefs and black socks and shoes.
Now all this was fun, until he summed up in his gag about his Oscar predictions. He set it up at the very top of the show and guarded the box throughout the night. Countless minutes of the dragging telecast were spent on these predictions.
Almost at the end of the show, he unveiled them and it turned out to be a series of very mediocre jokes about things that had happened so far.
Also want was a but shocking was he introduced every single presenter with some kind of silly joke or pun. Hardly any of them were funny, and some of the jokes were jaded and juvenile.
He even alluded to the controversy with a joke and said, “Tonight we honour Hollywood’s best and whitest, I mean brightest. The vast majority of the six thousand two hundred and ninety two voting members of the academy are white and male.”
The reaction on Twitter to his efforts has been mainly negative and in some instances quite brutal.
If one looks at the entire ceremony, the show itself was an awkward mix of socially charged commentary, like Patricia Arquette’s call for gender equity and John Legend’s plea to protect voting rights. Now all this just want out of sync.
Better luck next time guys!!
