Paddington, the first film outing for our favourite bear, hits UK cinemas in November 2014 and a host of celebrities have been joining in the fun.
As well as the film’s stars Hugh Bonneville, Peter Capaldi and Nicole Kidman, famous faces from the worlds of film, sport, music and even politics have designed their own Paddington Bear statues, which will be dotted around London on the Paddington Trail from November 04, 2014 onwards.
Harry Potter star Emma Watson, footballer David Beckham, presenters Ant and Dec and Mayor of London, Boris Johnson are just some of the leading lights in thier fields who have taken part.
To find all fifty statues visitors will follow in the footsteps of the world’s most famous Peruvian explorer, visiting locations from Heathrow in the far west through to the O2 in the east.
The trail takes in some of London’s key cultural and landmark hotspots such as The Royal Opera House, Museum Of London, Horse Guards Parade, The Museum of Chldhood and last but not the least The Paddington Station before the trail ends in Selfridges.
The first four designs have been revealed including Paddington Bear by Michael Bond, Paddingtonscape by artist Hannah Warren and Paddington Shakesbear by Michael Sheen.
As befits a pop star who is currently dazzling us in sequins on Strictly Come Dancing, the final of the first four, Paddington Sparkles by Frankie Bridge is the most colourful.
Paddington’s origins date back almost sixty years to when his creator, Michael Bond, bought a small bear from Selfridges on Christmas Eve 1956, as a present for his wife. He named him after the nearest railway station to which they lived.
The Paddington Curiosity Shop will be created especially to celebrate the historic link between the store and the famous bear and proceeds will help to raise funds for the children’s charity NSPCC.
Paddington will be out in the UK on November 28, 2014.
