The reality star and advocate for cancer survivors died Friday in a New York hospital, according to reports.
Diem Brown first won fame nearly a decade ago as a competitor on MTV‘s Real World/Road Rules Challenge. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of twenty three and announced her real-life challenge on the show.
Undaunted, she continued to appear on The Challenge until recently, because, she said, it obliged her to keep pushing herself.
“But there were times I felt alone, and overwhelmed by side effects and medical expenses,” Diem Brown had stated at a press meet in the year 2012.
Diem Brown established Medgift.com, an online gift registry enabling those with medical troubles to seek financial help as well as physical and emotional support. She stated that being a television celebrity, made things easy for her as it gave her the opportunity to make lives of other patients better.
In a statement, MTV called Diem Brown a true fighter, who brought passion to everything she touched.
And as recently as Tuesday (November 11, 2014), Diem Brown still sounded a battle call by tweeting: “My doctors are seemingly giving up but I won’t and can’t rollover. Whatever option I have to live I’m grabbing!”
Diem Brown, was a worrior. She made her final public appearance on September 10, 2014 at Us Weekly’s Most Stylish New Yorkers party at the Diamond Horseshoe at the Paramount Hotel, where she was honored among other celebrities like Lily Aldridge, Matt Lauer, Alan Cumming and more.
He indomitable bravery, warmth and joy has left a lasting impact on her loved ones as well as millions of fans. Radiant on her final red carpet, the MTV Challenge star, had collapsed while filming the show one month earlier.
