Run All Night is all about Jimmy Conlon (Liam Neeson) and his troubled past that haunts him, it’s also about his life as a hit man working for the mafia boss Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris) and last but not the least, Run All Night is a story about Jimmy Conlon’s estranged relationship with his son Mike Conlon (Joel Kinnaman).
Jimmy Conlon is Shawn Maguire’s loyal hit man. He he is forced to kill Shawn Margire’s son, Danny Maguire (Boyd Holbrook), who kills drug dealers he’s doing business.
Jimmy calls Shawn Maguire to inform him that he has killed his son and things get nasty between the boss and his hit man.
Shawn Margire wants Jimmy Conlon to pay for the life of his dear son, so as expected, he wants to now kill Jimmy’s so Mike.
The estranged father, comes to his son’s rescue and thus starts a chase between Shawn and the father son duo. In all of his, walks in NYPD detective, Detective Harding (Vincent D’Onofrio) who adds a lot to the progression of the film.
Eventually the son forgives his father and calls him Dad again. An emotional moment that’s well captured and performed.
Director Jaume Collet Serra, who has given films like Orphan, Unknown and Non Stop, is someone to watch out for.
Even though the film has a sloppy start, it takes an unexpected turn midway and then grabs your attention till the end.
However, it’s Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnaman’s performances are worth every penny. Liam Neeson is truly brilliant in the film and one must watch the film for his brilliant performance.
We have seen Liam Neeson essay the role of a retired cop, or a hit man or a special forces person quite often, but then, one has to give it to him, as he is convincing every time he does it. Hat’s off to you, sir!!
All in all, had the makers worked on the script a bit more, Run All Night would have been a blockbuster.
