Jeremy Renner stars as Gary Webb, a journalist in the 90’s who is about to be embroiled in the most sensational story of his career; a link between the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Nicaraguan cocaine smuggling.
Kill the Messenger tells the story of American investigative journalist Gary Webb, whose controversial story Dark Alliance caught the nation’s attention and shook the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). It also discloses the consequences Webb had to bear for his pursuit of truth.
Kill the Messenger, a truth-teller persecuted by the cowardly and craven mainstream media is pure fiction. Adapted from Gary Webb’s own Dark Alliance and Nick Schou’s Kill the Messenger, Michael Cuesta not only manages to create a spectacular film that recounts the life of Gary Webb but also sheds light on media manipulation, newspaper politics and the sacrifices a journalist is forced to make, for uncovering a conspiracy.
Jeremy Renner as Gary Webb is terrific and manages to portray the emotional upheaval, passion and edginess brilliantly. His rendition of the reporter’s candid speech will surely make you cry. Michael Sheen, Ray Liotta and Andy Garcia are effective in their respective cameos.
Kill The Messenger is undoubtedly one of the best crime dramas of the year and is a must watch.
