The singer’s father recently claimed that the documentary tries to portray him in the worst possible light, revealing that he ordered the film to be re-edited upon viewing it’s original cut.
However, Asif Kapadia has defended himself against criticism recently made by the late singer’s father.
He feels that Amy is all about Amy Winehouse and about what went on around her and the people around her. He even on to state that he knew that there would be people who may not like the film, but then it’s subjective.
Speaking about what influenced him when deciding on his next project, Asif Kapadia stated, “I don’t make films where I’m a massive fan. But at the same time it intrigued me, there are a lot of questions that I wanted to learn the answers to, and I hope those questions would be intriguing to a lot of the audience.”
Amy, the documentary, is Asif Kapadia’s first major project shot in London, which the filmmaker says influenced his decision in pursuing it. For him this documentary became about music, art, north London, the world he knew.
Despite the film’s inherent tragedy, Asif Kapadia states that Amy Winehouse was a very positive, funny and a clear girl.
The documentary itself boasts unheard tracks from Amy Winehouse and extensive unseen archive footage and is being promoted as a documentary about the soulful singer in her own words.
