Miss South Africa, Rolene Strauss, was crowned Miss World 2014 at the pageant’s final in London today, December 14, 2014, with an estimated one billion viewers watching on television around the globe.
Rolene Strauss, twenty two, won hearts with her background as a medical student in her native country.
“We have been working so hard towards this day. Ever since we have been crowned in our national events, everything has been building up towards these last moments and I want nothing more than to do South Africa proud and do my best up on there on the Miss World stage.” Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss has said in an official statement prior to the gala night.
After she was crowned Miss World 2014 an ecstatic Rolene Strauss stated, “South Africa this is for you. I think I will brace myself for what’s about to happen. It’s a huge responsibility.”
Rolene Strauss, took over the crown for Miss Philippines, Megan Young at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London.
“I hope Miss South Africa enjoys her year as much as I did. It’s not just a legacy for myself, but a legacy for Filipinos. Be ready for challenges, be ready for anything that comes your way” said Megan Young.
Miss Hungary, Edina Kulcsar was the second runner-up, while Miss United States, Elizabeth Safrit came third.
But the night was as much about Megan Young as the new winner, with the reigning beauty queen serving as host of the event.
A total of hundred ad twenty five contestants took part in this years pageant.
The finale five finalists were; Miss England, Miss Australia, Miss United States, Miss South Africa and Miss Hungary.
The top ten contestants of Miss World 2014 were; Miss India, Miss South Africa, Miss England, Miss Guyana, Miss Brazil, Miss Hungary, Miss Kenya, Miss United States, Miss Mexico and Miss Australia.
