Films like Lady Bird are so good that you just want them to go on and on.
The film is set in 2002, when mobile phones were rare. Christine McPherson aka Lady Bird (Saoirse Ronan) is a student at a Catholic high school in Sacramento, California. She feels that she doesn’t belong there and wants to move to an Ivy League College and a different city. She also has a weird relationship with her mother Marion McPherson (Laurie Metcalf).
Written and directed by Greta Gerwig, Lady Bird is a lovely take on adolescence and a mother-daughter relationship. One of the working titles of the film was ‘Mothers And Daughters’ and we clearly know why. It will make you reminisce your growing up years (if you are already an adult i.e.). Having the perfect mix of drama & comedy, it’s simply a delight to watch. Christine McPherson’s equation with her friends, her first heartbeat & her constant need to have a more fulfilling life, are shown wonderfully. The end in a little too abrupt though.
Saoirse Ronan shows a lot of maturity in playing a growing up teenager. Laurie Metcalf plays her part well. All the other actors are good in their respective roles.
Films like Lady Bird are rarely made. We give it 3.5 stars with a big kink.
