According to an official statement, Doctor Who executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat have stated that Osgood is back on the show, fresh from her recent murder at the end of last series.
Earlier the makers had confirmed that Osgood was definitely dead and not returning, but in a show that’s all about time travel, anything can happen.
Osgood was last seen on screen doing battle with the Cybermen when they invaded Earth and met her death at the hands of the female incarnation of the Master.
This time, she will face the Zygons, extra-terrestrial terrorisers who last put in an appearance in the show’s 50th anniversary episode, The Day Of The Doctor in November 2013.
Ingrid Oliver, as Osgood, was seen wearing the Fourth Doctor’s iconic scarf. In November 2014 she appeared again as Osgood in the series finale of Peter Capaldi’s first series, dressed as The Doctor, this time mimicking Matt Smith’s eleventh Doctor, as well as David Tennant’s tenth Doctor as they faced the Cybermen, where she is vaporized by Missy. The two part special is currently being filmed in Cardiff, Wales, along with Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and Jenna Coleman as his assistant Clara Oswald.
It will see guest appearances from Jemma Redgrave, Jaye Griffiths, Cleopatra Dickens, Sasha Dickens, Abhishek Singh, Todd Kramer, Jill Winternitz, Nicholas Asbury, Jack Parker and Aidan Cook.
“Every actor who has worked on Doctor Who will tell you, that there is always the secret hope you will get a call asking you to come back. Receiving that call is both unexpected and brilliant. It’s an honour to be back, especially because I was so sure Osgood was a gonner after the last series.” stated the talented actor in the release announcing her character’s return.
This special two part story will be broadcast in autumn 2015.
