This is one of the coolest penthouses in the capital. The top-floor apartment in Petersham House, Harrington Gardens, South Kensington, is just on the market and has the kind of three hundred and sixty degree views that make London one of the most romantic cities in the world.
In the foreground, the Victoria And Albert and the Natural History Museums. In the background, the London Eye, the Shard and other landmarks. All this to be savoured from a thousand feet roof terrace with a private pool.
But the fact that the penthouse’s former owners include Hugh Grant only adds to its glamour value. Hugh Grant lived here from 2002 to 2003. He bought it for £3.25 million and sold it for around £3.5 million.
For Hugh Grant, who recently turned forty, West London was his home turf. He had been born at the Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith and raised in Chiswick. Before buying the Kensington penthouse, he had lived in a house in Chelsea, off the Fulham Road.
By the autumn of 2003, Hugh Grant had decided to sell this penthouse and he bought Melksham Court, a medieval mansion in the Cotswolds, close to where Liz Hurley was living.
The current owner of the penthouse has spared no expense in turning it into a property for which any bachelor on the planet would kill. It features dark American walnut wood throughout, the finest marble in the bathrooms and seven spectacular custom-made crystal chandeliers.
There are bevelled mirrors, silk-satin bespoke curtains, wood-slatted blinds, a state of the art gym and that’s before you get to the roof terrace, with its six-person Jacuzzi for those wild Kensington parties that last until dawn. Every gizmo the twenty first century bachelor could ask for, from surround-sound televisions to the latest kitchen appliances, is present and correct.
Wow now this one certainly looks like a dream house!!
