The songs in A Star Is Born are wonderfully picturised and performed. Some of them even give you goosebumps. Unfortunately, they are the best bits in this film that leave you underwhelmed.
A remake of the 1937 film of the same name, the film is mainly about Ally (Lady Gaga), who works as a waitress. She also sings in the night at a drag bar. Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) is a pretty famous musician and singer but is addicted to alcohol. One day, after returning from a concert, he stops at a bar to drink. There, he sees Ally performing and is totally impressed by her. They start dating and Jackson motivates her to write and sing professionally. Her career soon begins to shape up but things start falling apart in their personal life.
The film seems way too long and reminds you of many previous films. We won’t tell you which ones and how because that’ll mean giving you spoilers. It’s not like the film is a pathetic watch. It’s just that it doesn’t engage you much. Even the scenes that are supposed to be emotional, fail to move you. However, there are some scenes & situations that stay with you.
Bradley Cooper acts wonderfully and Lady Gaga is brilliant. But they somehow don’t have a great chemistry. You can perhaps blame it on the screenplay or the script for that.
A Star Is Born is born can be avoided and you can see its songs on YouTube. We give it 2.5 stars with a small kink.
