It’s been 18 years since Rani Mukerji made her Bollywood debut with the film Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat. However, we feel that we have hardly seen Rani on the big screen. But, let us tell you that in her career spanning 18 years, the actress has been part of 47 films (including the cameos).
Rani is one of those talented actresses who has been an eye-candy in the films as well as has done performance oriented roles. There are very few actresses who have worked with almost all superstars and megastars of Bollywood, and Rani is one of them. There have been so many films which were not so great, but it was Rani’s acting that saved them. We are sure it will be difficult for Bollywood to get a talent like Rani Mukerji.
Today, as the actress completes 18 years in Bollywood, we have come up with 18 films of the actress which you need to watch.
1) Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat:
Rani played a rape victim and did a dramatic role in her debut film itself.
She didn’t have a meaty role in the film except being an arm-candy to Aamir Khan. But, she is referred to as the Khandala girl even today.
3) Kuch Kuch Hota Hai:
In a movie starring Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan, it was Rani who stole the show.
4) Mujhse Dosti Karoge:
Well, not a great film, but one of the best performances of Rani.
The actress won Best Actress Critics Award at Filmfare for this film.
Did a great job as a Bengali woman in the film and even won Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
7) Hum Tum:
Rani carried off the role of a widow with maturity. And yes, even won Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
We cannot imagine anyone else as the lawyer, Saamiya Siddiqui, in this Yash Chopra directorial.
The best film of Rani Mukerji till date. Won Filmfare Award for Best Actress and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress for the film. She is the only actress till date who has received Critics as well as popular award for Best Actress at Filmfare in the same year. We still feel she deserved a National Award for the film.
10) Bunty Aur Babli:
With this movie she proved that she is also good at comedy.
11) Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna:
KANK proved that no other actress can cry the way Rani does. Don’t believe us? Watch the film.
12) Ta Ra Rum Pum:
The actress played the role of a mother and a supporting wife with conviction.
13) Laaga Chunari Mein Daag:
Suited the character of a high profile escort and also showed the reality of the world not many have explored.
14) Dil Bole Hadippa:
Though Shahid Kapoor was the hero of the film, Rani managed playing the male lead as well as the female lead of the film very well.
15) No One Killed Jessica:
We don’t wanna say anything. Just one dialogue from the film is enough for you to watch it. ‘Waha Hote Na Toh Gaand Phatke Haath Main Aa Jaati’. And yes, she even won Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for the film.
As we said earlier, there are films which were pathetic, but Rani made it watchable. And Aiyya was one of them. Watch it for her sultry dance moves.
17) Talaash: The Answer Lies Within:
Kareena Kapoor Khan was the lead actress of the film and Rani was supporting, but critics and audiences couldn’t stop praising the latter. She stood out in this multi-starrer.
And this movie is Rani’s second best film after Black. She deserved all the awards for the film, but unfortunately didn’t receive any. However, for the film she received her first National Award in the category of the Best Representation of the Cause of Safety, Security and Protection of Women and Girl Child.
Rani will soon be turning a mother. The actress has always stated that she will keep on working even after having kids. So, we hope to see her soon on screen after she delivers her first child.
