Feature Name: Sui Dhaaga: Made In India
Cast: Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma, Raghubir Yadav, Namit Das
Director: Sharat Katariya
Runtime: 122 minutes
Sui Dhaaga: Made In India is not a bad watch. But the problem is that it’s too predictable and stretched.
Without wasting any time, we are introduced to the main characters of the film. Mauji (Varun Dhawan) works at a sewing machine sales shop and practically does everything his bosses ask him to do. At the wedding reception of his boss, he’s made to mimic a dog. He does that rather well but his wife Mamta (Anushka Sharma) is in tears watching him do so. She finds it very insulting and motivates Mauji to start something of his own. He takes up tailoring with her help & support, but it’s way tough than they imagine.
Sui Dhaaga starts really well. You are acquainted with the characters and even though you don’t find all of them to be affable, you don’t really mind them. But after a while, the film begins to drag. The pre-intermission sequence goes on forever. Also, quite a few characters are very stereotypical. The other thing that goes against the film is that it’s very predictable and the twists don’t add a lot of value. The climax feels too good to be true.
Varun Dhawan doesn’t disappoint and is exceptional. Anushka Sharma has a meaty role and does full justice to it. Raghubir Yadav is superb as Mauji’s father. Namit Das acts well. Yamini Das, who plays Mauji’s mother, is wonderful.
Sui Dhaaga should’ve been shorter & better. We give it 2.5 stars with a small kink.
