The Rowdies are back, and how! Director-actor jodi Prabhudheva and Akshay Kumar are back, this time not with a South remake, but with an original film Singh Is Bliing. Prabhu’s last outing Action Jackson was a disaster, but with the promos and the songs of SIB, he successfully made the audiences await the release of this flick. So, is he back with a bang, or will his latest outing give you a reason to pop a pill for headache? Let’s see…
SIB is about a useless guy named Raftaar Singh (Akshay Kumar). According to his father, he is a good for nothing who loves to eat the whole day. So, his father gives him two options – either get married to this girl who is extremely fat or get a job at his friend’s place in Goa. Of course, Raftaar decides to go to Goa. There, he gets the job to take care of a girl named Sara (Amy Jackson) who is in Goa to find her mother. Raftaar falls in love with Sara and then begins their journey from Goa to Punjab to Romania.
The story of the movie is not an amazing one; it is a normal Bollywood potboiler. But, then the presentation here is really impressive. The screenplay is engaging and hilarious. There are moments that will make you laugh out loud. Most importantly, there are no dull moments in the film; the movie keeps on entertaining you with every scene, and this is one of the most positive points of the film.
Prabhudheva recently stated that this the most original film he has directed. And believe us, he was 100% honest when he said it. With Singh Is Bliing the director proves that he can narrate a film fantastically, though he has no reference point like in the case of a remake. He knows his audiences expect entertainment and that’s what he offers in SIB. Prabhu is known for making massy films; but with the brilliant sequences shot in Romania, this time classes too will be impressed. Surprisingly, the action in SIB is quite unlike the regular Prabhudheva flicks. This time the action is technically perfect and not just another cheap roadside fight. Cinematography of the film is excellent. Goa, Punjab and Romania’s beauty is wonderfully shown in the film. However, the editing could have been better. Continuity jerks is a major drawback in this otherwise excellent film.
This is Akshay’s fourth film in the year. His previous films Baby, Gabbar and Brothers had him playing serious roles. But, with Singh Is Bliing he is back to comedy. If you thought that SIB will have Akki punching and kicking the goons in abundance, well, let us tell you, the superstar is hardly seen doing action in the film; he has only one action sequence in the climax. Yes, you read it right. In SIB, all the action is done by our heroine, Amy Jackson. Though her acting isn’t any great, she impresses us in the action scenes. And yes, we can’t deny the fact that her body language and swag are perfect for the role. She has tried her best to act in the emotional scenes as well, but doesn’t really impress us there. Lara Dutta is back on big screen after a hiatus and she is a show stealer in the whole movie. Her character is the best written in the film. She will make you laugh with her act. Don’t miss her antics in the song ‘Dil Kare Chu Che’. She is hardly seen after interval and you really wish to have her more on screen. Kay Kay Menon as the funny villain does his job fantastically. Rati Agnihotri impresses in her small role. Actors who play Akshay’s friends are a bunch of talent to watch out for. And don’t even think of going to the washroom in the first half, you might miss two really nice cameos – one by none other than Sunny Leone and other by Prabhudheva. It’s really good to see Sunny in a family entertainer and Prabhu’s cameo is hilarious.
The music of the film is as entertaining as the movie is, though we have to say that they are forcefully inserted in the narrative; but considering it’s a masala film, we won’t complain.
Singh Is Bliing Movie Review Final Verdict:
Overall, Singh Is Bliing is a full-on paisa vasool film with romance, action, comedy and catchy music.
