Shah Rukh Khan was presented the award by he 136th Leader of the office of Speaker Rt Hon John Bercow MP on behalf of the British Parliament. Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, Chair of the Home Affairs committee conducted the grand ceremony.
Shah Rukh received the The Global Diversity Award 2014 at a special ceremony held in the House Of Commons, last night, October 04, 2014 for his outstanding achievements in the field of cinema and his involvement in philanthropic endeavours.
Receiving the coveted award from Speaker of Britain’s House of Commons, the Rt Hon John Bercow Shah Rukh Khan described it as a big honour.
“This is a special day for me and I am very humbled to receive the award instituted by Rainbow Foundation.” stated Shah Rukh Khan post the award ceremony.
Other members of the Parliament from both houses, Commons and Lords were also present on this occasion. Shah Rukh received the award for his work in cinema ahead of his SLAM, The Tour concert at The O2 Arena.
For Shah Rukh it’s been a thirty three year journey and as he stood on the dais he remembered the first time he cam to London.
“My first visit to England was when I was twenty seven in connection with the first film Baazigar. I have got lot more than I deserved.” stated King Khan as she shared some of his moments with the people present.
He said the award would inspire him to work a lot more for the community, particularly the neglected community. “I will try to do in a small away, whatever I can,” added Shah Rukh.
Rt Hon Keith Vaz, Founder of the Rainbow Foundation, said, “Shah Rukh Khan is regarded as one of the most famous actors on planet earth.”
Apart from winning many awards and laurels back home for his acting skills, Shah Rukh Khan has also active in the fields of charity, particularly helping women who have suffered acid attacks.
Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, American civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton, Jackie Chan, music legend Dionne Warwick are among others who have been honoured by the The Global Diversity Award.
