“He is on life support ventilator now but his condition is critical. However, his body is responding well to the ventilators. He suffered from lung infection a few weeks back following which he was hospitalized at Kokilaben hospital.” stated Reema Amrapurkar in an official statement.
Sadashiv Amrapurkar, sixty four, was admitted two weeks ago in the hospital ,since last week he is in the Intensive Care Unit and his health is getting critical day by day. He has got a severe lung infection.
Apart from being an actor, Sadashiv Amrapurkar is also an social activist. Last year, he was attacked by some men at Versova after he protested against the wastage of water for Holi celebrations.
No one can forget his character of Maharani in the Sanjay Dutt starrer Sadak. He is still remembered for the terror he created in the film. Sadashiv Amrapurkar is well known for his performances in Marathi and Hindi films in the 1980’s and 90’s.
He received the Filmfare Award for Ardh Satya for Best Supporting Actor and the Best Performance in a Negative Role in 1991 for Sadak. Sadashiv Amrapurkar has been a regular with the likes of Govind Nihalani, Indra Kumar, Mahesh Bhatt, just to name a few.
He began to act in minor roles in Marathi cinema until in 1979 when he found his first major break in film playing Bal Gangadhar Tilak in the Marathi historical film by the same name.
Ardh Satya, Kal Chakra, Sadak, Mr. India, Ishq are some of his best films. Sadashiv Amrapurkar was last seen in Bombay Talkies. In addition to negative roles, he has done supporting roles and more recently, comic roles.
