When I had gone to watch Pyaar Ka Punchnama, I had gone there with not much expectation. But the movie surprised me no end as I found myself laughing out loud most of the times! So when the makers of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 promised ‘twice the punch’ this time, subconsciously, my expectations from the sequel rose.
The flow of PKP2 is quite similar to its precursor – the guys meet the girls, they fall head over heels in love with them, enjoy the honeymoon phase of romance, start feeling the heat, try to make things better, and finally realise how the girls have been taking them for a ride.
It’s love at first sight for Anshul aka Gogo (Karthik Aaryan), Sidharth aka Chauka (Sunny Singh Nijjar) and Tarun aka Thakur (Omkar Kapoor) when they meet Ruchika aka Cheeku (Nushrat Bharucha), Supriya (Sonalli Sehgall) and Kusum (Ishita Sharma) respectively. While we don’t have to get too much into the details of the guys’ character sketch here, let me talk about the girls. Cheeku is a selfie-obsessed girl who goes on shopping sprees, clubbing, manicure outings, etc with her boyfriend who doubles up as a driver and a coolie. Supriya is a girl who comes from a conservative family and doesn’t want to get married without her parents’ will. So, she introduces Chauka as her friend who later becomes the man Friday of the house. So, now she says she can’t introduce him to her parents as her boyfriend since they will feel cheated. After, her parents get Chauka to create an online profile for her shaadi, she meets prospective grooms with her anxious boyfriend in tow! Kusum is an ‘I like to pay for my share’ gold digger, who thrives on Thakur’s credit card and generous attitude.
Filled with beeps, kisses (Omkar and Ishita were on a kissing spree) and skimpy clothes, the movie has several wacky one-liners too. The monologue by Karthik Aaryan is longer and funnier too! Watch out for the last sentence in the monologue where he talks about the bribe women give, and what’s the solution to it! There are a lot of scenes and dialogues that many guys and girls will unfailingly relate to.
Now talking about the technicalities… Karthik, Nushrat and Omkar are very good and do justice to the characters they play. Ishita is pretty average in her act. Sonalli doesn’t suit her character at all, and crying on screen is something she shouldn’t try. Sunny suits his character, but needs to work on emoting; his expressions were more or less the same irrespective of the emotions he wanted to essay.
Cinematography is good, and editing is crisp. Director Luv Ranjan has done his job well too.
However, a couple of glitches I would like to mention:
Cheeku and her girl gang go for a manicure and get their nails painted blue. The same evening, their nails turn pink, and next morning they are blue again!
Supriya says she comes from a conservative family. Then how come she is allowed to wear such skimpy clothes… even while going to meet a prospective groom?
Anyway, if we ignore such hiccups, the movie is totally entertaining.
Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 Movie Review Final Verdict:
Overall, the movie is a must watch and will tickle you pink. Watch it with your friends or boyfriend/girlfriend to enjoy it even more.
