Director: Karan Butani
Star Cast: Jackie Shroff, Jimmy Sheirgill, Kay Kay Menon, Shriya Saran, Pankaj Tripathi, Mahie Gill
Set in the badlands of Chambal, Phamous fails to prove its existence. Why the film was made, what it wanted to showcase, was it a 1980’s drama set in 2018, or just another Bollywood film one can skip? What is the entire film about? The film tries hard to showcase the tragedy of the crime-ridden town but drastically fails to impress the audience.
The storyline focuses on many aspects of the society – forced marriage, abduction, political crimes, gun culture, and what not!
The film opens with a shot where Jackie Shroff (Shambhu) prevents his daughter from getting kidnapped from her own marriage by Kay Kay Menon (Kadak Singh) but ends up killing her, making him a rebel for years. Kadak Singh moves on with his criminal records and dhaakad (Phamous) life, joins hands with crooked politician Pankaj Tripathi (Ram Vijay Tripathi) and his brother Jameel Khan (Babban).
Ram Vijay Tripathi’s lecherous eyes on every other girl in the village make Jimmy Shergill (Raadhe) fight against the system for his wife Shriya Saran (Lalli). What happens in between is nothing but a potboiler. In the end, the knight in the shining armor saves the damsel in distress from the villain’s claws.
Don’t give this one a shot! We give Phamous 1 star with no kink!
