He has been accused of raping a thirty five year old American national. The victim is pursuing Ph.D. from Columbia University and was in India for some research work.
According to the victim, the unfortunate incident took place on March 28, 2015. An FIR with regard to the alleged incident was lodged earlier this week.
The complaint was filed June 19, 2015 in south Delhi’s New Friends Colony police station. The police arrested Mahmood Farooqui under IPC 376.
The accused Mahmood Farooqui, was presented before Saket court and the court has sent him into judicial custody till July 06, 2015.
Mahmood Farooqui is married to film director and screenwriter Anusha Rizvi, who co-directed the 2010 satirical film Peepli Live.
The film is a dark, satirical tale of farmers conditions in a remote Indian village and launches a scathing attack on the ridiculous Indian media. The film was a runaway hit when it was released in 2010.

Mahmood Farooqui is known for promoting the ancient Urdu storytelling art of Dastangoi. This art form was revived in 2005 and has been performed in India, Pakistan, and the United States.
The original dastango or storyteller engaged audiences at street corners in Lucknow or on the steps of the Jama Masjid, each story taking several days to play out.
He has has also been the main researcher of William Darlymple’s books City Of Djinns And White Mughals.
He is a Rhodes Scholar with degrees from Oxford, Cambridge and Delhi’s St. Stephen’s Colleges. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Doon School.
Born in Gorakhpur, UP he is known for his book Besieged: Voices From Delhi 1857. He is the nephew of noted Urdu poet and critic Shamsur Rahman Farooqi.
