The culprit, Pravin Kumar Pradhan, threatened Madhuri Dixit by sending messages that he will kill her kids if she fails to deposit required money in his account.
Reports suggest that the man sent around four text messages to Madhuri Dixit. A report published in a website reveals that the accused mentioned in one of the texts that he belonged to gangster Chota Rajan’s gang.
Reports also suggest that the accused used to work in a restaurant in Mumbai and is claiming to be an aide of Chota Rajan.
According to the police, Madhuri Dixit’s personal assistant on November 28, 2014 approached the cyber cell stating that she had received four threatening text messages on her mobile phone from an unidentified person at about 03:00 am on November 25, 2014. The mobile phone he used to send offensive messages has also been recovered.
“The accused was today produced before a court which remanded him in police custody till tomorrow,” said Sunil Ghosalkar, Senior Inspector at Cyber Police Station in suburban Bandra.
The leads collected during the probe took police to Pravin Kumar Pradhan, who was picked up and questioned. Pravin Kumar Pradhan, who works in a restaurant, has confessed to the crime, police said. He told interrogators he would have demanded the exact amount he needed if either Madhuri Dixit or her personal assistant would have made phone calls to him, police said.
Police were verifying if he was actually associated with any organised criminal gang or was simply bragging. The accused claimed to have made threatening phone calls to some film personalities in the past, police said, adding further probe was on.
