The newly released picture of Karan Johar as Kaizad Khambatta features Karan in a never seen before get up and sporting a moustache. Oops!!
Bombay Velvet marks the debut of Karan as an actor in a full fledged role.
Talking about his role, Karan stated that, “As wild as my imagination can be, playing an antagonist in an Anurag Kashyap film was nowhere in my thought radar. Now it’s done and I hope I don’t have to leave the city and hide when it releases.”
The film is all about a street fighter Johnny Balraj (Ranbir Kapoor), who rises from the underbelly of Bombay to become a big shot and an aspiring jazz singer Rosie Noronha (Anushka Sharma), and how their hopes and dreams collide with their individual realities.
The film is a period drama and is based on historian Gyan Prakash’s book Mumbai Fables, the movie is set in Bombay of the 1960’s.
Bombay Velvet stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Karan Johar, Kay Kay Menon, Manish Choudhary, Raveena Tandon, Siddhartha Basu and Remo Fernandes.
The film is being directed and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap, who was inspired to make such a film after reading L.A. Quartet, a sequence of four crime fiction novels by James Ellroy, set in the late 1940s through the late 1950s in Los Angeles.
“I throughly enjoyed working with Karan Johar and he will surprise you all when you will see him in the film. A director actually is a very good actor and only a director can understand that.” states Anurag.
The film has been shot for over eighty days in Sri Lanka and is touted to be the most expensive films of 2015.
Bombay Velvet will hit the screens on May 15, 2015.
