Born on July 20, 1950, Naseeruddin Shah is celebrating his sixty forth birthday today. Considered as one of the finest actors of the industry, Naseeruddin Shah has carved a niche for himself over the years.
Naseeruddin Shah was born into a Muslim family in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, where his father was an Army officer. He did his schooling at St. Anselm’s Ajmer and St Joseph’s College, Nainital and then graduated in arts from Aligarh Muslim University in 1971. He then enrolled himself into the National School of Drama in Delhi.
Naseeruddin Shah has balanced both mainstream commercial films as well as parallel cinema with equal ease and has done some memorable projects.
Very few know this but Naseeruddin Shahwas part of Raj Kapoor and Hema Malini starer Sapnon Ka Saudagar. His scene was edited out before the film released.
Naseeruddin Shah became active in mainstream cinema with 1980 film Hum Paanch and since then there is no looking back for the actor. He has been part of films like Nishant, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, Mandi, Ardh Satya, Karma, Sarfarosh, Dirty Picture and many more.
Besides Bollywood, he has also worked in some international projects that include Monsoon Wedding, The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen and also made his Pakistani film debut in Khuda Ke Liye, a film by Shoib Mansoor.
During his career, Naseeruddin Shah has been honoured by several awards, which include three National Awards, a prestigious award at the Venice Film Festival and last but not the least a Padma Bhushan.
Naseeruddin Shah met his wife Ratna Pathak Shah while working on a play together. Their common love for cinema brought them together and they got married in the year 1982. Nasseruddin Shah was earlier married to Manara Sikri earlier who passed away.
