Main Aur Mr. Riight was supposed to be funny, Main Aur Mr. Riight was supposed to entertaining and Main Aur Mr. Riight was suppose to be a perfect rom-com. I am sure this was the intent while making this film but sadly the film falls way below expectations.
The film is all about a stylish, single and super rich Bollywood casting agent Aliya Raj (Shenaz Treasuryvala), who is always being forced by her friends to get hitched.
All we want to advocate here is the fact that that all women should have only marriage on their minds. This should be their soul aim and the very basis of their existence. They should not bother about educating themselves or having a career, all they need to do is, look for a guy and get married.
Ghastly and regressive lines like, “Hey Aliya get married cause you will be all alone and single, while we will take our kids to school together.” are proof of what I just mentioned. Well if you have friends like these then trust me you do not need enemies.
Aliya takes all this in her stride and plans to create a Mr. Riight for herself so that she can shut her friends up!
Enter Sukhi Singh (Barun Sobti), a loud, brash, Punjabi Munda from New Delhi aspiring to be an actor; who Aliya hasn’t spoken to once; but whose photograph she just randomly pulls out of her designer purse, and shows off to her friends as her Mr. Riight.
The rest of the film is mundane, juvenile and boring. We have seen far too many films like these and it’s a torture to sit though the remaining part of the movie.
Main Aur Mr. Riight has a very immature script, that is if we can call that a script. The dialogues could have created an impact but the screenplay is so bad that they too lose their impact.
Making a romantic comedy with multiple characters requires refined writing and sensitive execution onscreen with nuanced acting. The best part is that Main Aur Mr. Riight has non what so ever.
Coming to the actors, well the director seems to have programmed only one expression into Shenaz Treasurywalla, while Barun Sobti is desperately trying to show off his acting skills, which stand out like a sore thumb. The rest of the star cast are just busy sleeping walking their roles.
The music is not worth mentioning and lets not even get talking about the direction.
Post seeing this one I would like everyone to maintain a one minute silence.
