Amit Sahni Ki List is a first person account of a sophisticated investment banker who’s looking for the perfect girl and perfect relationship. With his sharp wit and refreshing nonchalance, Virr Das in the titular role brings out the irony of the situation effortlessly. He makes a list of qualities that his lady love must possess. In a hilarious opening scene, he even dumps a girl for not liking Sachin Tendulkar. And since opposites attract, he falls for a free-spirited Mala (Vega Tamotia). But Cupid plays a cruel game when Devika (Anindita Nayar), the girl of Amit’s dreams, comes into his life soon after.
Vir Das is rock solid as uptight banker knocking gags after gags in almost each and every frame. Vega Tomatia and Anindita Nayar are rightly cast as Amit’s carefree lover and Ms. Perfect respectively. Natasha Rastogi as Amit’s trendy mother and Kavi Shastri as his cheeky baker friend have given fine performances in limited screen time.
There’s also Anu Menon (our very own VJ Lola Kutty) as a break up specialist helping Amit ease out of a perfect relationship.
The director, Ajay Bhuyan, needs to be applauded for the way he has treated the film. The editing is crisp and music is likable.
One only thing that Amit Sahni Ki List lacks is its pace as it takes its own sweet time in establishing the plot and the characters. Infact, the second act of the film kicks in only after the interval, which becomes very boring. The film is witty but lacks the emotional connect which may be a turn off.
Amit Sahni Ki List is not a great piece of cinema but thankfully its a good time pass.
Its fun, it has its moments and its a cute little film; well we are talking about Vir Das's Amit Sahni Ki List that has hit the silver screens today...1.0
