Expectations set for this movie were high cause of its brilliant trailer that started as anti-Christ but left us gasping with the mystery of “Titli”, portrayed as Manoj Bajpayee and tabu’s daughter in the film. The movie does have that thriller appeal to it, but debut director and writer Mukul Abhyankar fail to do justice to a good story.
It starts with Manoj Bajpayee having a quarrel with his wife while reassuring his child that the couple isn’t fighting. Later, we see Manoj (Sushant) and Tabu (Aparna) getting off a ship and checking into a hotel in ever so beautiful location, Mauritius. When they wake up the next morning, tabu finds out that Titli is missing from their room and there starts the story. What happens later is all a big pile of chaos, confusion and lies that lead the story into a nozzle that somehow starts irritating you. The story build up is slow and it all leads to an abrupt climax with lots of loose ends.
You start to question yourself as to why you chose this movie over the other releases of this week. Manoj Bajpayee somehow kept entertaining us with his acting skills in the second half of the movie, in the first, he tried his best to portray the flirtatiousness of the character but it resulted in a failed attempt making him look rather an old pervert. Tabu, in her character of a distressed mother, was spot on.
Annu Kapoor was rather the laughs of the movie, with his pronunciation of French words such as s’il vous plait and allez vuit, trying to be Sherlock Holmes of Mauritius also talking Bhojpuri in between was pretty amusing. The thing with thriller movies is that you need to keep the audiences in a tight mind space, which this movie failed to do so. It all goes down the hill once the audience starts laughing in a theatre while watching a thriller movie.
So, as Annu Kapoor says in the movie “Mon Dieu”, meaning illogical, is what exactly the movie is.
We give it 1.5 stars with no kink.
