Mark Ko Dard Nahin Hota

Feature Name: Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota
Cast: Abhimanyu Dassani, Radhika Madan, Gulshan Devaiah, Mahesh Manjrekar
Director: Vasan Bala

Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is truly a different film. And quite an enjoyable one at that.

It’s about a unique kid Surya (Abhimanyu Dassani) jisko dard nahi hota. Literally. He actually suffers from a very rare condition called Congenital Insensitivity to Pain which means that he cannot feel pain. But there’s also a catch. He has to keep drinking water or he can die of dehydration. His mother dies shortly after he’s born due to a road accident and his father tries to make sure his health doesn’t cause him further damage. Surya’s grandfather (Mahesh Manjrekar), on the other hand, believes in turning an adversity into opportunity. He makes Surya watch action movies so that he becomes really strong. Mani (Gulshan Devaiah) plays a one-legged karate master & Jimmy (Also Gulshan Devaiah) is his evil twin. Supri (Radhika Madan) is a part of Mani’s group.

A great film has great characters in interesting situations and Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is one such film. It has some wonderfully written characters. Almost all the characters add so much value. The other reason why the film scores high is because of its treatment. I don’t remember seeing a similar film which is so quirky. You’ll be amazed by many scenes like the fight sequence in Jimmy’s office or the climax. It also never takes itself too seriously. Even the rather sad scenes don’t give you a sense of grief. The action sequences are top-notch and so are the dialogues. There are some moments in the second half when the graph drops but that’s okay.

Abhimanyu Dassani makes an impressive debut. He’s particularly good in the action scenes. Radhika Madan is superb. Gulshan Devaiah is wonderful and gets some of the best lines. Mahesh Manjrekar delivers a superlative performance.

Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is one wacky film you simply can’t miss. We give it four stars with a big kink.
