In the age of hookups and Tinder, it is difficult to find love and when you do, you don’t want to leave the bedroom. That’s how Rumi (Tapsee Pannu) and Vicky’s (Vicky Kaushal) relationship is shown in Manmarziyaan. The story is a new perspective towards love, relationships, complications and arranged marriages.
Anurag Kashyap’s fresher approach to the whole idea of romance is simply commendable. His take on this age’s fast-paced relationships without future commitments makes you think hard. The “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” type plot is pretty evident from its trailer itself, but the originality with the script regarding every damn relationship or even the love triangle leaves you in awe.
Catch the trailer here:
Rumi and Vicky are madly in love, so much that Vicky everyday climbs terraces just to spend time with his lover, but once they are caught red handed, marriage starts dancing in between them. Rumi, being the hot headed girl, asks Vicky to bring his parents along to ask for her hand in marriage. Whereas Vicky, an aspiring DJ, keeps her hanging quite often, as he’s not the ‘responsible one’. Tired of his excuses, Rumi gives up on him and gives in to her family’s decision of an arranged marriage, where Robbie (Abhishek Bachchan) enters her life.
The chemistry between Tapsee and Vicky is simply lovable. It really is joyful to look at them on screen with all their love scenes, fights and even the emotional ones. You won’t see Vicky Kaushal much in the second half, which doesn’t balance the story much. Abhishek Bachchan is in his best of roles, the ‘Ramji’ types. The trio has made this flick purely enjoyable for the audiences.
Each and every song in the movie touches your soul, especially ‘Darya’, you’ll cry along with Vicky during the scene! F for Fyaar sung by Amit Trivedi is the peppy number that brings out Vicky’s quirkiness in the film. The second half gets a bit dragged in some scenes but the ending covers up for it.
Overall, Manmarziyaan by Anurag Kashyap is like a mirror to today’s generation of Fyaar.
We give it 4 stars with a huge kink.
