An elated Madhur Bhandarkar took on to Twitter and wrote, “Honored to have received The Sophia Award from Tom Bower at The Syracuse International Film Festival, New York!”
Madhur Bhandarkar was honoured at the eleventh edition of The Syracuse International Film Festival that was held in New York from October 05, 2014 to October 12, 2014.
According to media reports Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion and Heroine were also screened at the The Syracuse International Film Festival. The critically acclaimed director, famous for adapting real life stories into movies, has endeared his fans with movies like Chandni Bar, Page 3 and Corporate.
Prior to leaving for the festival, Madhur Bhandarkar took on to Twitter and wrote, “Fashion and Heroine will be screened in the Film from India section at The Syracuse International Film Festival on October 11, 2014 and October 12, 2014. This will be my first visit to Syracuse.”
The Syracuse International Film Festival was created in 2003 by Owen J Shapiro and his wife, Christine Fawcett-Shapiro. Over the past ten years, the fest has grown beyond an annual festival event to become a year round producer of screenings and media related programs.
Though his last movie, Heroine, with Kareena Kapoor could not win over the Box Office, the director has left no stone unturned to emerge as one of the most talented directors of Bollywood.
Currently working on Calendar Girls, Madhur Bhandarkar is very hopeful that this one too will be appreciated both by critics well as the audiences.
“In 2004, I was shooting Page 3 with a cast of newcomers. Exactly ten years later, am shooting Calendar Girls, again with newcomers. Deja Vu.”the National Award winner has stated while shooting for Calendar Girls, which is about fifty percent complete.
Here’s wishing Madhur Bhandarkar all the best and we do hope that he has many more such awards on his way.
