Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, completed 1,000 weeks of screening yesterday (December 12, 2014) and the film’s lead pair Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol recalled their fond memories of the film’s journey.
“It’s been twenty years for this film and I feel honoured that I was part of this film. It’s been 100 years of Indian cinema and I would say one-fifth belongs to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.” stated Shah Rukh Khan.
Kajol on the other hand stated that it was Pamela Aunty, who had a huge role to play in putting the film together as she was coordinating with each one of them.
“It was Pam Aunty who saw to it that everything went smooth. Also Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge released in 1995. I thought it was a stupid title. Why do you want to reveal the story of the film in the title and on top of it it was so long. I just hated it, but after twenty years I don’t feel it was a stupid title.” stated Kajol with a signature giggle.
The actors attended a grand premier that was held at Martha Mandir theatre to mark this historic day.
There is no denying the fact that romantic longing and eternal love stories have provided Bollywood with it’s most idealistic films. And one film which the fans continue to watch multiple times is Aditya Chopra’s directorial venture Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
It tugged at the heartstrings of the young, middle-aged and the old alike when it released way back in 1995. Even a thousand weeks after its run at the Box Office, Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer romantic drama Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge continues to be cherished by youths, who consider it an ideal love story.
Such was the film’s effect that most young girls felt love was all about finding their Raj, boys idolised Shah Rukh Khan’s ways of fighting his way to get the love of his life, while the picture perfect family scenes reflected the fun and frolic of a typical Punjabi household, whether it was Amrish Puri’s strict yet loving father’s character, Farida Jalal’s emotional motherly act or Anupam Kher’s goofy portrayal of Shah Rukh Khan’s father.
It may have been released twenty years years ago, but it’s impact stills remains deep-seated and relevance unchanged.
