Dhandapani complained of uneasiness and was taken to a private hospital here where he breathed his last, his media manager Mounam Ravi said in a press release here.
According to actor R. Sarath Kumar, Dhandapani was shooting with him on Saturday for upcoming film Sandamarutham.
“I had been working with him for the last ten days. He seemed perfectly fine when I saw him last. His presence will be missed on the sets,” he said. He described Dhandapani as a “warm and dedicated” person. “Although he had other businesses, acting was clearly his passion. This is evident from how much he threw himself into the roles he played,” stated R. Sarath Kumar.
Later on R. Sarath Kumar took on to Twitter and wrote. “My deepest condolences to friend and colleague who worked with me yesterday Kaadhal Dhandapani has left this world to the heavenly abode RIP.”
Having earned appreciation for his villainous role in Kaadhal, Dhandapani earned the moniker Kaadhal to his name. He has also acted in popular films such as Chithiram Pesuthadi, Muni, Krishna and Varutha Padatha Valibar Sangam.
Dhandapani had acted in over one hundred and sixty films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages.
The cremation is expected to take place in Dindigul at Dhandapani’s home town. He is survived by three sons and one daughter.
