Actress Vidya Balan is a class apart; there is no doubt about that. She constantly tries to work on her acting skills by doing challenging roles. This time the actress will be seen in a special appearance in a Marathi movie playing Geeta Bali.
The movie talks about the life and work of Bhagwan Dada from the age of 28. The movie will highlight his struggle while making his musical Albela. Speaking on the subject, the director of the movie Shekhar Sartandel said, “I wanted someone with a very Indian face to play Geetaji and Vidya suits the part perfectly.”
It was senior makeup artist, Vidyadhar Bhatte who suggested her name. He had worked with Vidya on Bobby Jasoos. The director narrated the script, and Vidya was more than willing to do the role. Explaining more about the film, the director said, “She’ll look like Geetaji from the original ’50s film and since Geetaji was a Hindi film star, Vidya won’t need to speak Marathi. We did a look test with her earlier, and Bhatte Saab did a great job making her look the part. She is a fabulous actress and it’s a treat to work with her. I don’t feel like I’m working with her for the first time.”
Vidya too is happy about the opportunity, “It’s an honour to be playing the effervescent Geeta Bali even if it is just a special appearance, and to be recreating Albela for a Marathi biopic on Bhagwan Dada.”
